Greenhouses often have to contend on a large scale with a mismatch in heat supply and demand for heat across the seasons. With the production of CO2 a lot of heat is released, while this heat is so necessary in the winter period to keep the growth in the greenhouse going.

Challenges for the AgriFood sector

Fossil energy is becoming scarce and expensive, while the consumer wants sustainably grown products. The climate change demands action as well. For those reasons the cultivation under glass strives for less energy consumption and for an increased share of renewable energy sources.

“Producing on a climate neutral basis is still a major challenge for the sector.”

Optimal use of residual heat

The Ecovat® energy storage system is ideal in offering a solution to this problem, because it is extremely buffer efficient and is based on renewable energy in generation, distribution and use. By placing Ecovat® under a greenhouse, the surplus of heat in the summer can be used in the winter period to deal with the heat shortage. Cooling for seasonal shift is thus kept in direct supply by the Ecovat®.

On our way to a 100% sustainable energy system.

We believe in a future that depends on a 100% sustainable energy system. Comfortable, reliable and affordable for the current generation, without it being at the expense of future generations. To make optimal use of the sustainable energy system, we design and realize an intelligent energy storage system at district level.
